Sell Online With Information

Your future clients are looking for you online, however, they are not actually looking to become your clients--yet. Online Informational marketing recognizes that consumers on the Internet tend to look for information first. If the information they find has value and is connected to a product or solution that helps solve their problem, they might become customers.

Information is King

In the world of web marketing and search engine optimization (SEO), they often say that "content is king". But for people researching on the web, it is more accurate to say that information is king.

For search engines, you have to recognize and implement a strategy to use keywords so the technology will see the content as relevant. But "content" is a search marketing term. What people seek is useful information.

Content marketing is synonymous with online informational marketing.

Searching for Info

Studies show that web surfers search first and foremost for specific and useful information. Using the old sales analogy, this means people don't search for what drill bits to buy, they search on why they need to drill holes and how it should be done.

When they find a website that explains how to correctly drill holes and what useful applications the process has, then they will start looking to buy tools. Often, this will be from the site that provided the information.

Website content must recognize this process. When consumers are looking for information and instead get directed to sales copy, they hit the back button. Informational marketing explains value first, then offers solutions that can be purchased.

Online Articles

An excellent way to develop informational content on your site is to write online web articles. These are short articles that can be posted on your web pages, blog, or submitted to online article directories.

Articles work best as expository, researched content that is meant to provide useful information. They build the authority and trust needed to convert the site visitor into a paying customer.

If you want to sell drill bits online, write informational articles that explain the uses of holes. Think about what questions people who use drill bits will have and answer them.

If you provide value in the way of information, you will be in a better position to make the sale than someone who is screaming "get drill bits here!"

Online, providing useful information is the first step in the sales process.
